The Territorial Wine Trail!
Welcome to the Territorial Wine Trail, a 40- mile wine tasting adventure along the South Willamette Valley’s historical wagon and stagecoach routes. Here you’ll experience some of Oregon’s finest wineries and fabled pinot noirs, arguably some of the best in the world. From boutique wineries in quaint and romantic settings to majestic wineries on hilltops, our wines attract visitors from around the world.
As you drive through the Willamette Valley, you may be following a road that used to be an old wagon trail. Some of these wagon routes connected with Territorial Road, which at one time was part of the historical Applegate Trail. That was a main route that allowed stagecoaches to travel through Oregon and into California. Tracing back to 1851, Territorial Highway is one of Oregon’s oldest roads.
Today, Territorial Highway runs along a 40 mile north/south stretch beginning at an intersection with OR 99W in Monroe and after a short zigzag at an intersection with OR 36 in Cheshire, heads south to Elmira and Veneta. It crosses OR 126 continuing south through Crow and Lorane ending at the Lane-Douglas County line.
Spinning off from this scenic and historical byway are some of the South Willamette Valley’s finest wineries, quaint restaurants and lodges. Be sure to check our website, oregoncountrytrails.com for a complete list of our attractions.
Enjoy the Territorial Wine Trail as it meanders along the foothills of the Coast Range flaunting roadside blackberries, alpaca ranches, produce stands, strawberry fields, vineyards bursting with fruit and wineries bursting with cheer!
